2025 Contest Overview

In its first year, the Sabi Prize will reward careful reading, comprehension, and writing skills and efforts in students between the classes of SS 1 and SS 3, inclusive.

We believe that comprehension abilities are not necessarily innate; they can be honed and strengthened. The Sabi Prize hopes to incentivize young people to strengthen their comprehension and communication skills via reading and writing.

Please follow the relevant headers for detailed information on the contest, the timeline, eligibility, and prizes.

Contest Information

The 2025 Sabi Prize will be held in two phases. In the first phase, contestants will be asked to write an essay from a prompt provided. After the first phase, the top contestants will advance to the second phase.

To limit the amount of worry, we are not releasing the details of the second phase at this time. Instead, we encourage all candidates to put their best efforts into the first phase.

Eligbility

Generally, students in SS 1, SS 2, or SS 3 are eligible. If you are currently being homeschooled or you follow an alternative system, please email [email protected] and we will let you know if you are eligible.

Awards

The Sabi Prize will award a grand prize of ₦ 1 million to the top candidate. We will also award multiple prizes for strong performance. The top 3 candidates, in addition to monetary prizes, will get their second phase essays published.
